Cool Article about Walkmans

I just found this really interesting article about the old Walkmans. The article was written by a 13-year-old kid named Scott Campbell. I must be getting old because I have fond memories of my old walkman. You can read the original article here.

Eight days smoke free

June 25th, 2009 No comments

Eight days without a cigarette…. I have to say that this has been one of the biggest tests of my willpower I’ve ever had to endure. These past couple of days the urge to smoke is fading. When I do get the urge to smoke it’s almost impossible for me to ignore it. I’m starting to get the feeling that maybe I will always get the urge to smoke as time goes on. I’ve got to keep in mind that the benefits of not smoking out weigh the feeling that I get from smoking. Now I have a lot more energy, I can breathe better and I seem to have a lot more time on my hands to do things I had been putting off for a long time. Another huge benefit is that I have more money in my pocket. A little of a week and I’ve already saved around $60. I can’t believe I’ve been wasting so much money on that useless habit.

Six days smoke free

June 23rd, 2009 1 comment

I can’t believe it but I’ve actually went without a cigarette for six days now. I’ve been using alternative ways of getting my nicotine. I’ve been using nicorette gum and swedish snus. I couldn’t quit cold turkey, call me weak or whatever but I just couldn’t do it. I’ve tried. The urge to go buy a pack of cigarettes is overwhelming at times and at others I don’t think about it at all. Hopefully the urge to smoke will subside and I can work on getting away from the nicotine gum and snus. By not smoking I have had a lot of extra time to do some things I didn’t get around to before. One of those things being my songwriting so maybe there will some new songs on the site before too long.

I quit smoking

June 19th, 2009 No comments

I haven’t smoked a cigarette in two days now. This is the longest I’ve went without a smoke since I started smoking. I finally got tired of always having to stop to buy a pack of cigarettes on the way to work and on the way home from work. I spend so much money on them and the damage to my health is always on my mind. I don’t want to get too proud of myself yet since it’s only been two days but I do feel good about the decision I’ve made and that I’m actually following through on it.

I quit smoking on Wednesday 17th of June 2009 at 08:00 AM and have been free for 17 days, 13 hours and 50 minutes. I have not smoked 526 cigarettes and have saved $121.77 as well as gaining 96 hours of life.

FDA will oversee Tobacco Industry

June 12th, 2009 No comments

I just found out that the Senate has granted FDA quite a bit of control over the tobacco industry. Below is an overview of the privileges that the FDA has been granted.

Main provisions of legislation giving the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate the production and marketing of tobacco products:

  • Creates a tobacco control center within the FDA and gives the FDA authority to regulate the content, marketing and sale of tobacco products to protect public health.
  • Requires tobacco companies and importers to reveal all product ingredients and seek FDA approval for any new tobacco products.
  • Allows the FDA to change tobacco product content to protect the public health.
  • Bans the use of flavors, including candies and fruit flavors, in tobacco products.
  • Calls for new rules that would prevent sales to minors except through direct, face-to-face exchanges between a retailer and a consumer. Limits advertising that could attract young smokers.
  • Strengthens warning labels.
  • Bars the use of expressions such as “light”, “mild” or “low” that give the impression that a tobacco product poses less of a health risk.
